NOON Projects is honored to present SUPERCORN / DEAD DIVA DISCO, an evening of music and performance curated and hosted by experimental musician and video artist Ciriaco. Presented in conjunction with David Shull’s exhibition Where there is Great Love there are always Great Miracles, the program celebrates and pays tribute to the late Jack Doroshow, also known as Mother Flawless Sabrina, and his collaboration with Shull on their book of the same name.
SUPERCORN takes its title from a concept and mantra coined by Doroshow, evoking a strain of American kitsch and sentimentality that is excessive, abrasive, and strangely irresistible. For the evening, Ciriaco has selected compositions that enter into direct dialogue with the exhibition and book, alongside songs written with and inspired by Doroshow. The program features special guest performers including Nora Keyes, Zackary Drucker, Tinglez, Alessandra Genovese, Charm Shoes, MZ Neon, and David Shull.
DEAD DIVA DISCO follows as a DJ set from Speed Gallery 666 honoring an idea once shared between Ciriaco and Doroshow: a posthumous disco party for divas and the communities who love them. Please join us!
Jack Doroshow, a.k.a. Mother Flawless Sabrina, was a self proclaimed gender clown who is perhaps best known as the protagonist of the 1967 film “the Queen” which documents Doroshow as the drag pageant impresario and Mistress of Ceremonies for the Miss All-America Camp Beauty Pageant. Doroshow’s work and legacy lives on via the Jack Doroshow / Flawless Sabrina Papers (NYU Libraries) as well as through the indelible influence he left on countless LGBTQ+ people who for generations made the pilgrimage to the queer sanctuary and haven that was 5 East 73rd in New York’s Upper Eastside.
A native Angeleno, Ciriaco currently performs under the monikers of Cosi Cosi and Charm Shoes. In addition to his solo work he is frequently collaborating with other artists, filmmakers, and musicians both domestically and internationally. He identifies as non-dairy gender fluids with his preferred pronouns being Darling and Dahling! Follow their IG for future updates and announcements.
